My Review:

I am writing this review the same Thursday that Riverdale on the CW is premiering. It was actually because of my excitement to watch the new show that I found out about Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (Review here) and Afterlife with Archie. I love when my curiosity finds even more interesting things to read or watch.

Anywho, I read the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina first, because I enjoy most anything with witches, and to be honest, I never really got on the zombie bandwagon. But I have to say that this horror comic was excellent!

I didn’t read many Archie comics when I was younger. One of my friends always got the latest copy, so when I was over at her house I would pick one up to read every so often. I remember Veronica being mean to Betty in them, but in this version, Veronica was a straight up bitch. And all that Betty had to put up with in regards to Veronica made her seem like a saint. But when it comes to Archie, Betty does not let Roni get in her way.

So besides their ongoing feud, all the regular characters are also present, including a brief cameo by Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Included are flashbacks and daydreams which help to move the story along nicely. And you also get incest and a lesbian relationship with some of the characters. Something that may have been hinted at in the original comics, but are in full force with this one.

This horror comic is a dark version of the Archie universe, and it is done very well. Besides the great story, the artwork works perfectly with a zombie comic. Some of the sparser panels only helps to enhance the reader’s imagination. If you enjoy horror, zombies, or want to see a darker side of Riverdale, I highly recommend Afterlife with Archie.
