My Review:
The Mercy Thompson series is always one that I look forward to reading, usually putting aside a day to completely immerse myself into this fictional world. I have really been enjoying how Patricia Briggs has been expanding the werewolf world, and moving into the world of the fae (along with some other supernatural creatures).
If you are a reader of Laurell K. Hamilton, then some of what you read may be reminiscent of the Anita Blake series. Not that it’s a bad thing, it just really stood out to me, and I haven’t really noticed it in previous Mercy Thompson books. Mercy was really mothering towards the boy who had been locked up in the fairy world. At one point the speech she makes about protecting those under her pack’s home/protection, felt as if it came straight out of a Hamilton book. It was just something that really stood out to me, and stayed with me.
As always, the action scenes were awesome. When they were fighting the troll, it reminded me of something you would see in a Summer Blockbuster. Briggs continues to write the characters wonderfully, making us feel like we’re catching up with friends. And with the newer characters, she is continuing to do a great job developing them.
The way she left the book with the impending war between supernaturals, has me really looking forward to the next book in the series. That’s the only downfall to getting advanced reader copies of books, you have to wait even longer for the next chapter in the story. But that’s a good problem to have.
